I Had My Tonsils Removed, But The Bad Breath Returned 6 Months Later!

by Tracy

I have had bad breath for a long time and have tried everything I could find to get rid of it. I knew I had tonsil stones and after hearing that it could be because I still had my tonsils, I finally decided to have them removed. The doctor agreed with me because my tonsils were huge and even after the surgery, they told me how big and gross they were.

My bad breath was COMPLETELY gone after I got my tonsils removed. I could eat the most garlic filled meal and breath in my fiance's face and he couldn't smell a thing! Then after about 6 months, it slowly started coming back. I feel like it's just as bad now as it was before I got my tonsils removed. I know it smells and I have a horrible taste in my mouth. I brush my teeth all the time and have again tried everything.

Does anyone know why my bad breath would have been completely gone and then come back?! It doesn't make any sense!

Were the adenoids removed also? I heard from one person that adenoids must be removed as well. I am doing reasearch as I have suffered from halitosis for the last 14 years and am ready to do something about it so I can start living my life.

I am just like you. I had bad breath 30 years ago. It began when I was 15, just after tonsil removal and because of it. Through these 30 years I couldn't talk to anyone about this. I am very sad about this. I was amazed when I found you on Facebook as there are many people like me. I'm about cry. Tears are about to come out of my eyes now. Thanks for giving me the chance to talk. Have any one found any solution for this terrible problem?

I had my tonsils removed at 18, thinking getting them out would do away with the tonsil stones and my bad breath would be gone. Did not happen. Tonsil stones gone, but not the breath. I have a mouth full of fillings due to eating breath mints and chewing gum my whole life. I feel very withdrawn with little self-confidence. I can use mouth wash and less than 5 minutes later the bad breath and horrible taste is back. I have lived with this 67 years.
I wish there was some doctor out there that knew something about this condition.

Tonsils and Tonsil Stones Gone, But Bad Breath Has Returned
by: Anonymous

I have the same problem. I'm 21 years old, had terrible breath, and had tonsil stones since I was 19, really bad. I couldn't even kiss my girlfriend. I'm always brushing my teeth. I chew gum like a fiend. Getting my tonsils out fixed the problem of my tonsil stones. However, it's been 2 months, and my girlfrind still cringes about me having bad breath!!!

Can someone please input some good news on how to fix this pleasee!!
