I Brush, Floss, and Rinse but Still Have Chronic Bad Breath

by Rodni
(Kansas City)

I have chronic bad breath, but no one alerts me when it's bad. I can tell when it's bad, however, because whenever I speak to someone they try to step back or avoid me. I've gone to a dental school for regular check-ups and cleanings but have the same problem over and over.

I've used Sensodyne, Crest, Listerine, and TheraBreath products but still have the chronic bad breath. In addition, I always feel thirsty.

I've had chronic bad breath for over 3.5 years, and it's ruining my life. Every time I go for an interview, I get stressed out about it, and it just messes me up. I feel like giving up.

Could someone advise me as to what to do?

Gary's Response: I can feel your stress and frustration, Rodni, especially regarding interviews... Been there, done that, didn't like it one little bit.

Your post may contain a clue as to why none of the products you mentioned, particularly the TheraBreath products, did not work for you. You say you are thirsty all the time. I don't know what your age is, but is it possible that you have Diabetes? Constant thirst is one of the symptoms, and for some Diabetics, chronic bad breath is an issue.

Do you take any prescription medications for other conditions? Many of these methods cause dry mouth, which can contribute to bad breath.

Do you still have your tonsils? One other possibility that comes to mind is that you're developing tonsil stones.

Regardless of the cause, I think your first step is to get a checkup and let your doctor know about the chronic bad breath and especially about the constant thirst.

Good luck and please let us know what you find out.

Gary

Well as for all the other comments I guess I am not alone. But, it is the same for me for years I have been dealing with this embarrasement and no dentist is giving me answers, This is an on-going problem for me and I really don't know what to do I have asked to send me to a specialist for example; periodontist and they as in the several doctors I have gone too they refuse to give me a referral I had to get cleaning every 3 months and still the problem is there I am spending more money. Something has to give a regular doctor to tell me something but someone answer our question.
I reside in Ocala, Florida its just terrible to go to church, to work close to people stand near people I try not too.

I have a great dentist I visit in KC at Leawood Dental Center. He might be worth giving a call. The web site is www.leawooddentalcenter.com.

Solution for bad breath
by: Don

What you might want to try is gargling with equal parts Hydrogen Peroxide and water. It's very cheap and very effective, considering you have taken care of all other major dental problems associated with bad breath. The first time I tried it, I gargled a few minutes with it just before bedtime and woke up without any morning breath. It really gives your breath that natural, healthy feeling. You won't be disappointed with the results.

Kansas City Specialists for Chronic Bad Breath
by: Gary - KBBG

Hi Rodny,

It sounds like we aren't any closer to finding a solution for you, but I am glad to hear that your problem with chronic bad breath is not due to Diabetes.

There aren't any specialists in the Kansas City area for whom I can provide a personal recommendation. However, a bit of research turned up a few names you can try:

Michael C. Byars
9051 NE 81st Terrace, Suite 210
Kansas City, MO 64158
Phone: 816-781-8222
byarsdental.com

Steven C. Mingos
4746 Belleview Ave.
Kansas City, MO 64112
Phone: 816-531-8740
plazadentist.com

Gregory A. Stiver
13643 Holmes Rd
Kansas City, MO 64145
Phone: 816-533-7393
gregorystiverdds.net

When you call them, ask what services they provide for those who suffer from chronic bad breath. If for some reason, it seems like they won't be able to help you, ask them to recommend someone in the area who can help.

I hope this info helps. Please let me know how things turn out.

Best regards,
Gary

Chronic Bad Breath
by: Rodny

Thank you, Gary, very much for your comment. I had taken diabetes tests, and I was fine. Also, I don't have tonsils. They were removed when I was 11.

I've seen about 4 dentists and explained my case, but nothing's been resolved, and it's hard to live with this situation. I don't know if you recommend any specialists who can help with chronic bad breath in the Kansas City area.
